Today is my birthday! I am 28!! Wait, what its not October 11, 1996? Well maybe I will let you do the math then :) So we are celebrating ALL WEEK! and giving something Amazing away every day!
This is a bit long - but stay with me!
I first met the Pioneer Woman last November at her book signing in Chicago. Sheila and I drove down bought lots of cookbooks one of which I was going to give away on my blog - yes, last November! Well LONG story short - here is what happened.
We were at the top of the stairway waiting in line. Me, Sheila, and approximately 17 cookbooks between the 2 of us. The Barnes and Noble lady was walking around asking what we would like to have the Pioneer Woman sign in the cookbooks. Well, I wasn't sure - I hadn't thought about it - I just thought she would be signing her name, so I asked her to come back in a minute. I thought and thought and then A HA!! the perfect verse came to mind. The one about not being afraid to entertain strangers . . . I knew that it was in Hebrews somewhere but I couldn't think of the exact verse. So, I checked my phone to call my husband but it was dead. So was Sheilas. Then another A HA moment came - "We are in a bookstore" - I can look it up! I ran down to the bible section and wouldn't you know - most of them were wrapped! I quickly grabbed the first one I could find and flipped through - Yes! there it is Hebrews 13:1 Let brotherly love continue, do not be afraid to entertain strangers, for you might be entertaining angels - So perfect! I was giving away several cookbooks to friends who love to cook and entertain so I was now beyond excited!
I ran back upstairs found the lady who was writing everything down for the Pioneer Woman to sign and she wrote down Hebrews 13:1. Well then it was our turn. PW asked "Oh what verse is Hebrews 13:1?" And I proceeded to say oh its about not being afraid to entertain strangers because you might be entertaining angels and she said "oh how nice" and the Barnes and Noble lady said "Oh what a perfect verse for a cookbook"
So we got home and I was wrapping up the cookbooks and then I was reading my bible and I was at Hebrews 13:1 and it said "Let Brotherly Love Continue" and then Hebrews 13:2 started "Do not be afraid to show hospitality to strangers. Well I think my heart stopped for a second. Then I proceeded to check Hebrews 13:2 IN EVERY SINGLE BIBLE in the house as well as online. They all said the same thing!
I called my husband. Explained the situation. I wanted to give away this signed cookbook on my blog but I put the wrong verse down. He said "well what verse does it have?" I said "Let brotherly love continue" - He said "I am sure that will be the right verse for whoever wins".
Then I called Sheila. Explained the situation. again. When Sheila got finished laughing she said "Well I think that you should still give it away. And I think it would be really refreshing for everyone to know that the redletterwords lady doesn't have all of scripture memorized" What? We then started a discussion on why on earth anyone would ever think that I had all of scripture memorized?? :) Do you see my conundrum?
So then Christmas happened. And winter and then spring and then summer and then every now and then the subject of "the cookbook" would come up. Mostly when we would discuss that at least I didn't have PW sign
Deuteronomy 5:30 - Go and Return to your tents - that would be wierd in a cookbook
or
Psalm 42:1 - As the deer pants for water . . . - that would be even wierder in a cookbook
Surprisingly "the cookbook" subject did not come up when we stayed at the ranch this summer. Then we went to the creative connection in September where PW was the keynote speaker. I thought Ok, this has gone on long enough. I have got to give away that cookbook! So I explained the situation. Again. to PW. and we laughed and came up with even wierder verses for a cookbook and she signed another one for me with Hebrews 13:2 and here it is!
So I am giving away one cookbook signed by PW and . . .
yes! - a 12x12 cafe mount art print with Hebrews 13:2. I totally want this in my kitchen!!! - and what a perfect gift for someone who loves to entertain:)
